Correction: "...$700,000 to medical clinics in Redwood City and the Ravenswood City School District, respectively." should have read: $700,000 to medical clinics in Redwood City and the East Palo Alto (Ravenswood Family Health Center), respectively.
Less than $114,000 of Ravenswood's $700,000 grant from the Sequoia Healthcare District benefits district residents.
Electing Lois Garcia and Harland Harrison will ensure that such misappropriation of property tax dollars will be stopped.

Where do I find out about these two individuals and their qualifications and success? I no longer want to vote for an inadequate candidate who can not achieve SOMETHING! Anything!
I am leery of putting another person on this board who just sits there for a decade and talks and posts a lot on the Almanac, but has failed in every step thus far. I have yet to see a list of successes from Jack Hickey.
Who are these two? Any health experience? Foundation experience? Experience in breaking a company apart? Take a company through Bankruptcy? An M&A background? Ever have a job? Anything?
Evidence: hickey -"I guess you could say that I chose them and they're qualified to do the things that need to be done"
Well, there ya go! Wow! Mr. Trump tells us it will be YUUUGGGEEE! Don't worry about details! YUUGGEEE! And a wall! YUUGGGEE! A TALL wall!!! Really YUUGGGEEE!
From Lois' "Personal Bio" on her nearly unreadable website: "I'm a specialist"
and "I love the food from Cuban Kitchen in San Mateo!"
Zero information on background. Who are you?!?
What are they hiding??????
Yuuugggeee. Sniff.

There is no doubt that the Sequoia Healthcare District is no longer needed; for those who weren't sure, the county Grand Jury settled the matter. The money the District collects is re-distributed to charity in order for the board members to keep their part-time monthly paycheck and freebie county health benefits. The only issue is how to dissolve the District.
There are several issues to work out, but our taxes just happen to pay for an agency (called LAFCO) that creates and dissolves local districts. The current board have blocked that.
This is wonky stuff, but when you get into it, its maddening that we still have this earlobe bureaucracy for no real reason.
Vote for Harrison and Garcia to let LAFCO do its job of closing it down. Shoulda been done 20 years ago.

We know who incumbents Katie Kane and Kim Griffin are. They're part of the 4 member board majority who voted ~$250,000/year in salary and benefits for a CEO who manages a former hospital district, with one full time and 2 part time employees. The repurposed Sequoia Healthcare District doesn't own Sequoia Hospital.
It was these incumbents who voted to increase health insurance benefits for sitting directors, collected 6 months of increased reimbursements, and then, when the board decided it was inappropriate, they did not return those overpayments.
It was these incumbents who rejected my motion to adopt a grant-making policy which would prevent the type of misappropriation seen in the Ravenswood grant. Instead, they cling to a de-facto policy which would not survive in daylight. Ask them to tell you about that de-facto policy.
It was these incumbents who ignored my motion to create a benchmark for the Nursing Program to show reasonable benefit to district residents. No employment-in-the district or repayment of the nurses subsidy, more than $6,000,000 of nurses services went to patients outside the district. Nine nursing graduates were employed in Palm Springs.
We know enough about these incumbents. It's time for a change.

If you want to learn more about the candidates, open up the San Mateo County voter guide you received in the mail. All the candidates have written statements there. You can also watch their video statements as well.

"open up the San Mateo County voter guide you received in the mail."
Because if you go to her own website you will find out her qualifications. Not. But you will find out which places she eats!

Well, based on the recommendation of a prior post, I did go to Lois Garcia's website.
This is a very impressive woman. Her website thoughtfully reviews the district and spells out her philosophy and vision. If the only thing you got out of it was where she eats, it says more about you than her.
Her's the link. You see who's telling the truth.

Thanks for the link. Maybe I missed something.
The entirety of her career info...
"I entered the field of information technology, and built my career from the ground up. California truly is a land of opportunity. Today, I’m an Information Security specialist, concentrating on defense."
Did I miss the page with her mad skills and achievements and successes?

If all Jack had ever done as a member of the Board was to save Sequoia Hospital, it would be more than enough to justify loyalty to him as the Director most concerned with the *people* of the District, as opposed to special interest groups. He has done more than that, throughout the years, as much as a minority of one can do, and people who know the facts are well aware of that.
As for my background, you can find my cv at Web Link I have nothing to do with the healthcare industry, and that is a good thing. Groups will not be able to play on quid pro quo or past connections in order to secure a vote from me for funding.
I do know what it's like to need healthcare and not have the money for it, which is likely more than can be said about any other member of the Board.

I thank David Boyce for presenting this article. I would like to point out, that while getting one of these candidates elected would provide a "second" for my motions, I urge voters to elect Harland Harrison as well as Lois Garcia(who has the endorsement of the Republican Party).
Check out Harland's website at: Web Link
