Editorial: Housing crisis requires bold steps to resolve

Solving the housing crisis that plagues the Bay Area will demand Herculean resolve and enterprise if cities continue to welcome job-generating high-tech companies to set up shop. San Mateo County is taking a number of steps in the right direction, and is considering a ballot measure that could result in a giant step forward.

I agree that bold moves are required. Our socially liberal but fiscally conservative community has a hard time with moving beyond rhetoric. NIMBY has a strong hold in our community. I am not cynical about such change, but it's hard not to be pessimistic.

Another bond issue on top of the recent school bonds? That would certainly drive more low income seniors out of our neighborhoods.

The only long term solution is for the cities to stop welcoming those "job generating high tech companies".
