Menlo Park: Dry cleaner pleads no contest to fraud charges

Original post made on Jul 11, 2016

Under a plea deal, he could be sentenced to eight years in prison.

Didn't this same person run for city council? 1994 I believe. And I wonder how many other customers were defrauded but never noticed or were to embarrassed to speak about it.

If one was charged on their credit card, couldn't they just dispute it with their credit card company?

I have used Menalto cleaner for over a year, and I trusted Gary and I had no idea he was overcharging me for over a year for thousands of dollars. I brought my towels to be washed almost weekly. I am very disappointed that he took advantage of my trust.

A sad but just conclusion. I considered myself to be a friend of Gary's. At first I believed that it was all some big mistake that would be quickly cleared up. As time progressed more information came out and it became obvious. I suspect that most customers didn't lose anything; their credit card companies compensated them and wrote it all off. But that doesn't make up for the betrayal that many felt. And I know of at least one person who loaned him money directly which will never be repaid. He asked me also... I wanted to do it but in the end I declined.

It's just sad all around. We'll probably never know what transpired, what events led to it all. It doesn't matter at this point.

Used his services once and he was an asshole. Luckily I paid in cash.
