While I'm envious of corporate amenities, having spent most of my career in non-profits where amenities began and ended with Peet's coffee and real half and half, when large corporations bring services in house, they essentially starve the surroundings communities from reaping the economic rewards of thriving local small businesses. East Palo Alto and eastern Menlo Park are particularly vulnerable and would greatly benefit from the monetary influx out of house services could provide to the community.

I also truly hopes that the government steps in to regulate the purchases made by individuals in Menlo Park. Shopping on amazon.com essentially starves the surrounding communities from reaping the economic rewards of thriving local small businesses. East Palo Alto and eastern Menlo Park are particularly vulnerable.
As a startup founder competing with the likes of Facebook, I really hope that Menlo Park can regulate facebook so that they are forced to cut perks as it is quite difficult to attract talent. Maybe have a regulation that requires facebook to supply me with some engineers.
Also, please remember not to tax my property to fund community services as we all know that stream of income would be too reliable. I want to have my cake and eat it too.

@Government, isn't it more likely that businesses such as yours that can't compete with the likes of Facebook or Amazon will simply go extinct? Survival of the fittest, no? What do you want the government to do, step in and tell people to stop buying things on Amazon? Ridiculous, I look forward to your company declaring bankruptcy.

@Bob
I don't believe @Government is being serious. He/She is using sarcasm to criticize @Boardermom's arguments.

Will the 30 or so employees of the clinic be able to afford to live in Menlo Park? It would be nice for Menlo Park businesses if more Facebook employees lived and spent money in our community.
