An ex-San Mateo County sheriff’s deputy was sentenced Friday for child molestation on an underage female relative in Santa Clara County that had started about 10 years ago.
Galen Underwood was sentenced to 38 years consecutive to 30 years to life in prison for molesting a girl beginning when she was 11 years old at homes in Gilroy and Mountain View, Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Charles Gillingham said.

If Underwood had been caught molesting this girl in San Mateo County, ten to one we would never have heard about it. Either he wouldn't have been charged and Wagstaffe would have kept it off his cases of interest list for the press.
And even if Underwood had been charged in San Mateo County, there's no way he would have gotten such a harsh sentence
Note that DA Wagstaffe made no comment to the reporter about Underwood.
