Artificial Turf at Nealon?!

Just read about the City's plans for Nealon Park baseball field/dog park. 11/10/15 in the Almanac: "According to Cherise Brandell, community services director of Menlo Park, the plan includes replacing the natural grass and irrigation system in the sports field and renovating the playground at Nealon Park within the next two years." The City's plan to "REPLACING THE NATURAL GRASS" is a terrible idea. Keep the field safe for kids..and dogs.

I heard a piece on the radio a while ago about astroturf, and how it had
concentrations of toxic lead in it that would shed off from the product
forming little pieces of plastic that are like dust and get on people's
hands and skin, are breathed in and cause toxic contamination of
the people who play on these fields.

I would hope that if they decide on an astroturf playing field that
they would do extensive research and get guarantees and ways to
measure any contamination and remediate if if it is a problem,
otherwise stick with grass.
