A rare conviction of a white-collar criminal. The first, one hopes, of more.

How is it that no one caught on to this huge embezzlement until it was in the millions? I feel he should have to repay it, and should NOT get that pension. What are we teaching our youth if he gets his pension? This is why our city proceedings should be transparent, and why there is so much distrust now in local hiring and salaries.

While informative, this article could have included a paragraph or two on how a man can turn a page, and what effect this crime and punishment has had on all those involved. A lack of compassion and forgivness for the corrections a man makes to correct a life mistake makes for a poor society. What happened was bad, and has been covered endlessly in this paper by the same reporter. It is getting old. It is difficult to feel incented when we all know there was a Boss (now deceased) to Mr. Hanratty who was also responsible who was not punished, and a sloppy, snoozing school board that let this situation get out of hand. It would be nice to see ALL hands slapped, then restitution and forgiveness take hold. I live for a World where a man can turn a page.
