I saw the article too and was left wondering how much the city gets from the property taxes if this happens. Will the property tax increase to the city cover the cost of what these residents want?

The Park Forest area of Menlo Park was annexed many years ago from the County into Menlo Park. I was a resident when we were annexed and from my perspective allowing Menlo Park to annex our properties has proven to be a huge mistake.
We were promised better services etc, and we were convinced this was the way to go.
But what we got and now have, has proven to be a huge mistake. The City up zoned the corner of El Camino and Encinal which eventually allowed the 1600 El Camino office building to be built. All good for the City's treasury but hardly good for those of us facing the structure or dealing with the congestion that it partly delivers. We were promised entry and exit through that building's parking lot, only to find later that this did not
mean 24 hours passage; no indeed they chain it up on weekends and after dark.
Our Townhomes on Stone Pine Lane have a center strip for parking. The City promised us exclusive usage of that parking for our needs before we were annexed. Now the City has been issuing overnight parking permits to residents of the apartments at the corner. Parking has become a bit of a nightmare. The City has issued use permits to high parking need businesses for the commercial businesses at the corner; the users and workers come down and fill up our parking.
The City decided without any notice to the residents to re stripe the center parking to allow a few more parking spots. The narrowed parking has now resulted in dents to car doors and often very uncomfortable entry and exit from vehicles.
The latest insult, is the approval of the Hunter project on the Roger Reynolds property. No regards to those affected really.
To sum up, those residents of the County who think they will benefit from being annexed into Menlo Park, really should think about the whole picture. Being annexed was a mistake for Park Forest residents.
