'Best-Looking' Pumpkin comes to Menlo Park

Menlo Park's own pumpkin patch on El Camino Real at Valparaiso Avenue, owned by Ronald Pantano of San Mateo, just got 390 pounds of pure gourded beauty delivered to its grounds. This hefty attraction comes in the form of the pumpkin awarded the "best-looking" prize at the Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival on Oct. 12.

I assumed when viewing the site and seeing displayed the Foundation's sign, that the revenues would be going to the Foundation. Now I read this venture is a for profit private enterprise, and that only 10% is going to the Foundation.

This is pretty devious.

...and why exactly is the Almanac promoting this for-profit venture? Can we expect the same for a for-profit Xmas Tree lot and...gag me...Super Bowl merchandise vendor?

@MP Resident - the almanac writes stories about for profit business all the time. it is nice that this one gives back to the community.
