An oak tree that Atherton's town arborist Sally Bentz estimates was close to 200 years old and about 50 inches around, fell on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 27, closing Linden Avenue near Elm Place for more than four hours.

Those that think the removal of the oak tree from the Menlo Park school property is some kind of "conspiracy" should keep this photo in mind. Imagine if school children had been playing beneath this tree when it collapsed? How many children would have been killed or injured? Oak trees don't live forever.

A huge branch broke off an oak on Woodland and fell across the road on Tuesday. Luckily no one was driving under it at the time but I've been nervous standing under trees ever since.
