SAN JOSE -- A former San Mateo County sheriff's deputy was found guilty Friday of molesting a female relative over a six-year period, starting when she was 11.

Galen Underwood, 42, now faces a mandatory life sentence after a a Santa Clara County Superior Court jury convicted him on nine counts, including aggravated sexual assault. The jury deliberated for slightly more than three days.

I'm wondering if he had been a resident of San Mateo County whether he'd ever been charged... and FYI: the Santa Clara prosecutor, Chuck Gillingham prosecuted the case of the man who molested actress Teri Hatcher when she was a child.

The Santa Clara County DA's office doesn't protect dirty cops like San Mateo County.

It's a relief that Santa Clara Co prosecuted this terrible case. They've had some top notch sex crimes prosecutors for a long time now. How sadly ironic that the defendant was employed by a dept run by men who were found in an illegal house of prostitution. Some of those sex workers were underage, weren't they?

Damn straight!

Our Sheriff and under-sheriff get caught in a brothel featuring underage girls yet nary a word from our elected representatives on the board of supervisors. And our DA tells them that the "people that matter" are OK with their perverse behavior. These people disgust me.

The voters of San Mateo County get the corruption they tolerate.

Menlo Voter - by any chance do you recall a local FBI agent busted in the mid-80s for some sort of sex crime? It may have been sexual abuse of a minor. He was with the SJ or SF office, and I think his last name may have been Smith. This has nothing to do with this article, but the talk about our Sheriff reminded me of him, since our sheriff was with Palo Alto PD at the time.

I vaguely recall that, but time has worn away the details.

I do recall a SJPD officer in the mid 90's busted for the same thing. If I recall correctly, it was a very young child. He was sent to prison for a long time. From what I heard he insisted on not being placed in PC and ended up having all of his teeth broken out while in prison. Even cons won't tolerate child abuse.
