I don't know what the long term plan is, but for me, improvements can't come soon enough. I really like this section of Marsh road. A lot. Coming in from 101, it provides a noticeable change from the rather unattractive and congested set of properties which lead up to it. The dense canopy of oaks are, for me, the "welcome to Atherton" sign that isn't. I gives me the sense of home.

However, for me, the canal adds nothing to it. It would be one thing if this was a natural looking stream, but it isn't. It is a concrete culvert hemmed in by a long line of chain link fence. I'm certain that given the many talents of design professionals and with the guidance of Atherton officials, that this piece of Marsh could be improved to look even better than it does now -- to cover the culvert, widened and recenter the driving lanes, add bike lanes, and maybe establish a decent walking path on the North side. Fingers crossed.

Marsh Road represents a severe obstacle to emergency response vehicles even when it is open and the frequent closures for accidents and the following repairs severely degrade emergency response.

The short portion of Marsh Road that is in Atherton needs to be made at least a three lane road with preferential access for emergency vehicles.

I agree. The culvert adds nothing but a dangerous, congested section of Marsh Road. Fill it up.
