Letter: Removing Searsville Dam would be 'beyond insane'

Original post made on Apr 19, 2015

With regard to the Searsville Dam, it is beyond insane in a time of extreme drought to even consider demolishing it. We need more dams and more reservoirs, not fewer; more water storage, not less.

Wow. 19th century thinking and statement from Brian. So dry up all our rivers and kill off all the wildlife and forests that depend on them? Talk about a disservice.
Dams and reservoirs waste huge amounts of water through evaporation; a disservice during a drought and otherwise. Is that waste a failure of engineering? Building more dams doesn't make it rain more so they can actually fill up. Groundwater storage is the solution for California, not more dam caused evaporation ponds.

Searsville is so full of silt as to be virtually worthless as a water storage facility. Dredging would be required to make it useful again and that would send huge amounts of silt downstream destroying fish habitats.
