It's Bacon, not Corned Beef

Original post made by really?, Menlo Park: other, on Mar 17, 2015

For those of you wearing green today, I shall throw a grenade into the mix today and suggest that eating corned beef today is a sham (as my Irish relatives tell me) and that 'Bacon' (smoked cuts of pork- not the thin breakfast stuff) is the true Irish tradition. It seems that Corned Beef is a New York adaptation for the Irish as are so many other things to do with this holiday.

The cabbage part of the meal is correct however. But then to be truly Irish it should be boiled for a least two hours until all the flavor is leached out.

Happy St. Patrick's Day
