Catherine Carlton tells India 1 million square feet of office space for startups is coming to Menlo Park

Original post made by Bamboozled, Menlo Park: Allied Arts/Stanford Park, on Feb 12, 2015

According to these articles in two different newspapers in India, Catherine Carlton is running around India telling the press that Menlo Park is now developing one million square feet of office space for startup companies:

Does anyone know where the one million square feet of office space for startups is being developed? I bet I do.

The Stanford Project and Greenheart Project aren't even before the City Council yet, but Carlton seems to know exactly how many square feet of office is going to be developed.

Scary.

Carlton misled me during the Measure M campaign. I believed her when she said the process wasn't over and she would only consider reasonable developments.

Bamboozled.

Dear Bamboozaler,
Please tell me you don't believe everything you read in the newspaper. Not every Indian paper has the same reporting integrity as our lovely Almanac or even the Daily Post. I think Mayor Carlton is doing our community a service by bringing diversity and cultural ties to our city that will yield great educational and economic benefits.

lessons learned is a registered user.

Facebook is expanding, though that space is not available to Indian startups. But between the two projects on El Camino and Bohannon's planned monument to himself near 101, there will be over 1mm square feet of office space within the next few years, all contributing to the quality of life in our "suburban" town.

Two of our council members (at least!) are currently in India promoting our city. Are we paying for that?

P.S. Anyone who expects any of our council members to prioritize anything other than their own professional and financial interests hasn't been paying attention. The No on M campaign was just one manifestation.

Looks like Carlton is having so much fun she isn't content with just one India friendship agreement this year. She is already making promises for a second agreement. Looking at past City Council agenda packets I can't find any mention of a friendship agreement with Vizag or Visakhapatnam? What is Carlton doing?

"The city of Menlo Park in the US is keen on forging cultural and economic ties with Vizag and hopes to ink an agreement on twin city relationship between the two cities soon, Menlo Park mayor, Catherine Carlton said here on Friday while participating in the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Visakhapatnam Zone annual day meet."
