Dogs on leash code being enforced at Holbrook Palmer

Original post made by what-is-the-reason, Atherton: other, on Feb 9, 2015

Visitors to Holbrook Palmer Park are now greeted with a lighted, highway sized information sign stating that dogs not on leash are subject to a $100 fine, first offense.

The Park has always had a "dogs must be on leash" rule, but I would say 20-50% of the owners had been ignoring, but without any consequences that I have heard about.

Anyone know, why this sudden enforcement? I visit ofter, don't have a dog, and have not found ignoring the rule to be any problem to me.

This is what the town said on Friday, Feb. 6, in its "Atherton Online" email:

"The Town has received several complaints about dogs off leash in Holbrook-Palmer Park.

Please be reminded that Chapter 6.04 of the Town's Municipal Code prohibits animal owners from allowing their animals off leash on a public street, sidewalk, park, school ground, or any public property. Please be reminded this includes Holbrook-Palmer Park.

Being a responsible dog owner is more than just feeding Fido a grain-free diet or buying the latest, trendy toys. Keeping your dogs on a leash at all times when visiting Holbrook-Palmer Park or any other public property in Town ensure the safety of all pets and park users.

The Police Department continues to monitor the Park for dogs off leash."
