Why no news of the traffic signals out in Menlo? Very dangerous situations. Where in the hell are the cops????

People speeding through some intersections in both directions, no flares or cops directing traffic on Willow/Middlefield or Oak Grove/Laurel. Scary and unnecessarily dangerous, but there's a only this headline about Atherton???

No, police officers are not allowed to man signaled intersections when the signals are out because of a power outage. This is City policy, and is AWFUL.

This policy is dead wrong and must be changed ASAP.

(I just now called the MP PD and asked them if they protect signaled intersections during a power outage and the officer said they do NOT. It is City policy to NOT allow police officers to man signaled intersections when the power is out and the traffic lights are therefore out.)

Menlo Voter is a registered user.

Because they expect people to obey the law and treat a signaled intersection with the signal out as a four way stop. Put a cop in that intersection and all you do is endanger the cop's life. Just look at all the idiots blowing through the intersection that you saw. Believe me, having directed traffic, I can tell you people are clueless behind the wheel.

I am sorry that I did not really consider how dangerous manning intersections is for the cops doing that.

There must be some way to get people to stop when traffic signals are out. Highway flares? Police cars with flashing lights parked on the side of the roads? Or are there simply not enough police officers to do that?

I'm glad Middlefield has reopened. What a mess that must have been! And Fair Oaks Lane being closed from Station Lane to ECR -- another traffic mess.

I just stayed away from those areas today.
