San Mateo County Sheriff Deputy Juan Lopez was arrested

Original post made by Michael G. Stogner, another community, on Nov 13, 2014

San Mateo County Sheriff Deputy Juan Lopez was arrested this afternoon. You will recall this brave sole ran against his boss Sheriff Greg Munks this last election. He is being held across the bay for some reason. I called and confirmed he is at the jail but hasn't been booked yet.

Juan Lopez took a powerful group of men on. That is, Greg Munks and Carlos Bolanos. You don't take these guys on and remain standing afterwards. Lesson learned.

What is the deal? Does he have an attorney?

Yes, Juan has an attorney, David Washington. In fact, the Palo Alto Daily Post did a story this week about how Washington filed a lawsuit against the City of Belmont for hiding information concerning the pepper spraying death of a Hispanic man by some San Mateo Deputy Sheriff's in 2005. Washington had filed a freedom of information request to Belmont to get the files, but Belmont didn't respond in the ten day period as required by law.

Don't delete this Almanac. It's been printed.

I have been told by an impeccable source that Lopez was arrested in Alameda County and that there were eight undercover gunmen surrounding him. Warrant was from San Mateo County: "Conspiracy to commit a felony." $100,000 bail. Don't know what the felony is yet.

Are you working on this story, Almanac?

Great story, Ms. Batti!

Wow: they go after Sheriff Munks' election rival for election fraud but the San Mateo DA won't look into the SamTrans fraud?

This is the Twilight Zone.

Very curious that they chose him as a target and that they used so much manpower to go after him. This is insanity.

A copy of the Writ would be helpful. Is it related to the hearing?

I have known Juan Lopez for over 35 years since I was seventeen years old. Whatever they are accusing him of doing is not true. he is a dedicated man to his work and probably one of the very few law enforcement officers that are truly honest and loyal to the oath took to protect the law. I don't believe anything they are accusing him of. He is a good honest man and he will be cleared from all these lies against him. M.A

I was wondering why DA Wagstaffe was refusing to identify the inmate, maybe he had mentioned his name several times and we just didn't get it.

The name of the inmate is Lopez.

[Post removed. The inmate and the deputy are not the same person. They are both named Lopez but are not related, according to county authorities.]

According to San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe, the inmate accused of conspiracy in connection with smuggled cellphones and drugs into the county jail is Dionicio Rafael Lopez, 27, of San Bruno.

Dionicio Lopez is not related to Deputy Sheriff Juan Pablo Lopez, Mr. Wagstaffe said. Deputy Lopez is charged in the same case.

Relatives of Dionicio Lopez were also charged: Leticia Lopez and Amanda Lopez.

Probation, Don't worry if you are confused, You are not alone, For three months Juan Lopez was told he was being investigated for voter and financial fraud. I welcomed that investigation by Steve Wagstaffe, If we could look at every Deputy's financial records to see if any of them sign a false statement to refinance, That would be some investigation. As it turns out I was talking to Juan Lopez by phone when he got arrested. I was interviewed by KPIX 5 and asked several times what is my comment on the charges and I had to tell him each time that not only did I not know what he was charged with, Juan and his attorney didn't know. 20 minutes of interview turned into a couple of seconds on TV.

Today's Palo Alto Daily Post front page story written by somebody titled " Photo shows inmates using cellphone."
Deputy arrested for smuggling took the picture, DA claims.

What picture, no picture provided

Would the Almanac please go to the court and find out what Deputy Juan Lopez is charged with. It is changing everyday, this story mentioned above is a press release for Wagstaffe.
