Great. I wonder how many kids drivers will roll over while looking over their shoulder for these bogeymen.
How nice they can choose which locations they victimize.

really:
how about these self-absorbed jackasses pay attention to what they're doing? If they aren't breaking the law, they have nothing to worry about and they won't be "rolling over kids while looking over their shoulders," will they? You self-absorbed folks need to stop blaming others for your shortcomings. I know you think there is nothing more important in the world than you and what you want to do, but the rest of us don't.

It's ironic that the MPPD feels the need to bring in reinforcements from other cities to deal with our chronic traffic issues, considering their efforts to reach out to the community last week (10/10). They would be better served by dealing effectively with the Naked Cop they still have on their books. Also what a shame that fatal Hit and Run that saw a young girl killed at the entrance to Sun Microsystems several years ago remains unsolved (.. no it’s easier to go after people who are easy prey for those who ‘serve and protect’. (What about the other unsolved fatal hit and run on Middlefield Rd last year (that’s Atherton PD, they are busy checking estate homes and issuing warnings to residents, while ticketing all and everyone who is not a resident for the slightest of infractions, their own statistics prove it).
Drive Safe Menlo Motorists, and don’t overstay your parking spot downtown .. it will cost you $45 !
MP Resident, 20 years (no convictions or accidents in 30 years of driving, worldwide). No parking tickets either !
PS. Please enforce the Right Turn Only (Alma to Ravenswood E, 4-7 pm ..) A fortune to be made from everyone who ignores that sign !!

In the area, I've seen too many drivers talking on their phones, too many people who don't know where they are going. Getting tickets is a bummer, but killing people because you are a bad driver is much worse. Thank you Police Department. P.S. I am not driving today.

Steve -- They are trying to remind drivers to obey the driving laws. Police uniforms are pretty effective reminders.
So are pleas from your neighbors. I was hit while at a stoplight on the Alameda by someone talking on the phone.
PLEASE slow down --- and PLEASE get off the phone when you are in the car.

The reason they do it is to cite people who break the laws that are in place to protect all the rest of us. Speeding, distracted driving, DUI, illegal turns, running red lights, ignoring people in crosswalks are actions that kill and maim people every day, not to mention all the fender benders that cost us all lots of money.
More importantly though is that they are publicizing it. Ticket one person and you influence only that one person. Publicize that you are out there looking for dangerous drivers and you are influencing thousands to the fact that dangerous driving habits are not only illegal, but socially unacceptable.

Steve--If you had pulled over instead of typing your post while driving, you could have checked your spelling and grammar.

Thinking of creating a Web site putting photos of drivers and their license plate who are on their mobile phone while driving. It is very common around here.

@ Scholar - I wish those folks got ticketed. El Camino between Encinal & Ravenswood, as well as the Valparaiso-Glenwood intersection is where I see many drivers holding & talking on cell phones, often while making left turns. Looks like moms calling the kids to say "I'm on my way to pick you up at school."

Scholar -- The website showing photos of locals on the phone while driving is a terrific idea!
PLEASE let us know if/when it happens.

some people only learn when hit in the pocket book. May it be a fruitful day for the police departments. By the way, I have not seen a motorcycle officer in Menlo for a long time. Do they still have some?

Please have some motorcycle officers blanket Santa Cruz Avenue, too. That's a scary street for pedestrians & I watched a woman last week try to parallel park her SUV on Crane St while holding & talking on her cell phone. She didn't even put down her phone after she backed in to the compact behind her.

This doesn't do a lot of good as when today at 1:30pm two of these vigilant mototcycle cops were parked together on Santa Cruz at University in front of LB Steakhouse gabbing away and having a good old time.
Further they leave at 4:00pm, missing the rush hour, because they have to get back home in the East Bay so they don't get caught in the rush hour themselves. Tip: If you want to violate our traffic laws do it >4:00pm as the cops have all gone home as per their contract.

For those of you wanting to post photos of those talking and texting - simply submit to the one that has been up for some time - great web site that has many followers
Web Link No - I have no idea who started it or when - but I caught it on news about 2 months ago

That "TWIT SPOTTING" website is terrific....especially the photo of the driving school instructor who is on the phone.
I hope the PA, Menlo, Atherton, Redwood City, and Mountain View police SCHEDULE MORE DAYS OF ENFORCEMENT to write as many tickets as possible. And the Highway Patrol should do the same. More tickets equals more safety and more revenue for the cities.
As I mentioned earlier, having been hit (and injured) by someone on the phone I'm especially sensitive to this issue.
PHONE-ADDICTS: how about obeying the law before you hit, injure, or even kill someone? You are not special, you cannot use the phone and drive....not possible.
