Doesn't anyone realize how surealistic this is that in the most affluent area in America we are given instructions on how to protect ourselves from the wild beast mountain lion? These are the rules pioneers would have to follow. Hasn't civilization progressed past life or death training? My verdict: We are nuts.

Norman - a lot of people like to hike in the wilder and more secluded areas of our gorgeous parks. They may occasionally run into a mountain lion. They should know how to avoid an attack.
Best advice I've heard: Try to look big by raising your arms and stretching our your shirt or coat over your arms. Definitely put children onto your shoulders and instruct them to look big too. Back away slowly. Make noises, shout, warn others, throw rocks if necessary and fight back if attacked.
