Why did Measure M over reach?

Original post made by Peter Carpenter, Atherton: Lindenwood, on Sep 4, 2014

Measure M states "two massive developments recently submitted to the City revealed loopholes in the 2012 Specific Plan.."

If Save Menlo was only concerned with these two developments why did they propose a 12 page initiative that does great harm to the City and its future balanced development?

Why do they want to block a new fire station serving the downtown area?

Why do they want to make it impossible for owners of existing downtown buildings to replace those buildings because of Measure M's bizarre open space definition?

Why do they want to encourage medical offices which are huge traffic generators?

Why do they want to encourage very large residential developments that will overwhelm our schools?

Because they simply did not think about the consequences of their poorly written and totally unvetted initiative.

Measure M is a Mistake.

It is as simple as the alphabet - just as BC follows A, when you get to M then you just go to NO.

Steve Levy's blog and the comments on it provide an excellent perspective on the rights of property owners - rights which Measure M would eagerly restrict:
