I remember seeing Jim Gallagher's name in The Redwood City Tribune. I always thought, a great name for a newspaperman. That was when The Redwood City Tribune was one of the three papers that was a part of Peninsula Newspapers Incorporated (PNI), together with The Palo Alto Times and (The Burlingame Advance Star?). That was when newspapers were independently owned and not part of larger corporations.
I worked at The San Mateo Times in 1967 which was also an independently owned newspaper. Owner and editor was J. Hart Clinton at the time.
Even then, it was foreseen by people in the newspaper business that the era of independently owned newspapers, and the individual and independent points-of-view, the singular editorial voices they provided to their readers, was soon to be a thing of the past.
