A renewed Ford Field baseball diamond opened for the 2014 Alpine-West Menlo Little League season on Saturday, March 15, with motivational remarks, and the first pitch, from Eric Byrnes, whose 11 seasons in the big leagues included the Oakland A's and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Congratulations to Portola Valley for the opening of their new Ford Field! How appropriate to have Eric Byrnes to throw out the first pitch! I was fortunate to be friends of Eric's Mom and Dad, and therefore watched him grow up from a little leaguer to an outstanding Major league player who always gave his very best and then some whenever competing.His words to the little leaguers ring so true....."never give up on your dreams"! What a great inspiration for these kids to have had Eric throw out that first pitch, but more so to listen to his words of advice.
