I used to see these all the time when I lived in Portola Valley 10 years ago. Have they really disappeared since then?

I have watched for Monarchs in Woodside for 13 years without seeing one. They are up on the hill off of Skyline, but so far never down lower. This gives me hope that all the milkweed (fascicularis and curassavica) that I have planted will eventually lead to some Monarchs in Woodside too.

When we were kids, growing up in the West Menlo Park foothills in the 1940s, there were thousands of Monarchs. We used to bring them to school for Show-And-Tell time. Then, over the years, they began to disappear. Thanks to Anne for sharing the great photo and happy news.
