Thank you for sharing your memories, helping to revive mine. I, too, long for those special trips on the "B" streetcar with my mother or my best friend when we were old enough to go downtown on our own.

Although this is about San Francisco, the very same events and approach were true in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We dressed, gloves, streetcar. same sales techniques that were elegant. We went to some lovely ladies place for lunch and shopped sending packages home free.
It was delightful but it's better now. No girdles or high heels, etc.
