December 16th 2008 3 supervisors appointed Carole Groom after being heavily lobbied and Bill Nack of San Mateo County Labor is a good example of that.
In 2009 the Grand Jury issued a report scolding The Supervisors for appointing instead of letting the voters vote and instead of answering in writing to the Grand Jury the Board of Supervisors side stepped the issue and gave it to the Charter Review Committee of 2010. At one of the public meetings the CRC was politely warned that if the county didn't let the voters decide this issue they would be sued. the CRC made its final recommendation to the supervisors and they voted 14 to 2 in favor of letting the voters decide. The supervisors chose to ignore the majority and once again refused to let the voters vote on this issue by refusing to place it on the ballot. As promised San Mateo County was sued and as of today have spent $995,000 tax payer dollars in legal fees and an additional $100,000 dollars for the current Redistricting Committee which is headed by Bill Nack " San Mateo Labor Council". This committee has been formed as part of the official settlement of the lawsuit and their is absolutely no commitment by the board of supervisors to revise or redraw any boundry lines. Why are we investing $100,000 dollars for this committee? Are the Supervisors continuing to misbehave? You be the judge.
