The proposed new location of a red light camera should more properly be called a "right turn camera." The Redflex analysis provided to MP Police shows the huge profit potential for citing right turners. Nowhere is there a discussion of how safety might be improved by citing right turners. The Redflex rep. even assured MP Police that after an initial drop off in violations, there will still be plenty of violations and that number will be sustainable. A properly timed yellow light for the speed of the straight-through traffic will not raise enough money. Thank goodness, we can use the same law to hammer those Hollywood Stops at $500 a pop.
Where is the safety benefit? Is there a high degree of foot traffic crossing Chilco? Is the Belle Haven community aware of the proposed "toll tax" of entering and leaving the community via Bayfront?
