Technically La Loma Drive is Sharon Heights; West Menlo Park is the unincorporated "University Heights" neighborhood between Menlo Park proper and Sharon heights. Regardless, the need to reinforce side/rear garage doors is becoming clearer by the day as the recent steady stream of brazen daytime break-in reports indicates. Does anyone have any advice on best practices or have a good door strengthening service they can recommend?

Concerned:
The first thing to look at on garage side doors is whether they have glas in them. They often do. That type of door should be replaced with a solid core door and secured with a deadbolt with a 1 1/2" throw. The strike plate should be installed with minimum 3" screws into the framing of the structure and not just the door frame. That will be a door that is very difficult and time consuming to break open. Also, always lock your doors and windows. Locks do no good if they're not used.

Concerned Citizen - if your lifestyle allows, get a dog! It's not an infallible option, but most thieves will avoid a place when they hear a dog bark.
I'm in EPA, & one of the first things I did was install a solid core door as my front door, as there was already one for the garage. I also have dogs.

Hmmm:
Dogs are good.

I'm always a pooch pusher, MV! I know not everyone can have/wants one, but they're aces for safety.
