Possible illegal use of public funds to Keplers

Original post made by old timer, Menlo Park: Central Menlo Park, on Dec 22, 2012

According to an article in the PA Daily news, the City Council has just approved awarding $4500 in grants to some organizations and businesses to subsidize their use of the Performing Arts Center.

Taking the $1000 grant to Keplers as an example, there is surely something amiss when the City takes public funds to subsidize a private business, such as Keplers. Surely this must be illegal. Who on council or staff is driving such an initiative?

It has been obvious for some years, that MP's $2.6 million contribution to help fund the Performing Arts Center was a huge mistake. Now this council is trying to put "lipstick on this pig".

"Possible illegal use"

"Possible" nonsensical post, by a "possibly" bitter old scrooge, "possibly" with nothing better to do.

s'possible?

Using such exact language as "possible", "surely", "something", "must be", and "trying".

The grants have not yet been awarded - that was the Parks and Rec Commission's responsibility, and they did not have a quorum at their last meeting. Kepler's has been split into a for-profit bookstore and a nonprofit lecture and events arm; they applied for a grant for the nonprofit side. See this week's Almanac for more details.
