In my experience in schools, apple devices go from handy devices to hundred dollar bills. At Hillview school when iPods were big, they were stolen and sold as often as anything else, an apple, a bag of chips, a box of pencils. While iPods were great tools for listening to music, they had no place in a school environment.
Same goes for apples new device, the iPad.
They aren't significantly easier to do computer work on, and they can realistically do about 50% of what a normal computer can do. So even if it's easier to surf the web, your time typing slows down the whole operation by a several fold.
In conclusion, there's nothing you can do on the iPad that you can't do on a regular computer, except maybe surf the web while on the toilet, so why spend an extra 500 odd dollars on a device that's 60% easier to steal and conceal?
