Atherton residents create their own library survey

Here are some results from the survey. Responses 155. Highlights are that 70-75% want the town to vote on the issue and 20-30% agree with statements that Atherton wants a bigger library in the park. On several questions 15% or more had no opinion. With 70% of the survey opposed to the vote of the council to move the library and double its size, hopefully the council will listen to the Park and Recreation Committee and those that were surveyed and put this to a vote. To make it easier to read I am combining Strongly Disagree with Disagree and just calling it “Disagree”. Also Strongly agree is combined with Agree and called “Agree”.

I use the library and enjoy its atmosphere each time I enter it. I attended a computer class there which seemed to have ample room for participants.

I have never noticed the sound of the train while in the library.

I have never not been able to find close by parking on those occasions when I have driven instead of walked. The placement of the library is perfect as far as I am concerned.

I visit the park everyday on my walk. I cannot imagine tearing down the house in order to place a library there. The park is built around the house. When you walk in park, you are given a place of restful tranquility as you go around the loop. The people you see there are using the park, not rushing into the library to drop off a book or to use the computer or just use the library for an extended amount of time.

Please keep the two separated the way they are now.

I would hope that citizen voices are not only heard but listened to. I am wondering how this idea came up and once having been voiced why it has been taken to the point of a concrete proposal.
