Letter: To balance budget, Clinton raised 'revenues'

Neither Clinton nor Gingrich and the Republican Congress deserve the credit. The credit goes to Ronald Regan for breaking the Soviet Union financilly which reuslted in its dissolution shortly after he left the White House. The diminuation of the Soviet threat resulted in DoD budgets that were less than in previous years. So the president the Noo Yawk Times pilloried for his reckless statement "Mr. Gorbachev, Tear Down This Wall" was wrong again as usual.

Reagan tripled the national debt. Dubya doubled it again.

Cons can't get over the fact that no republican president has some close to balancing the budget.

Clinton did it and left a surplus.

All facts.

Cons can't stand it so they have to twist and preen and twirl and dance to distract from facts.

If it was all about the gop in congress being the reason, why didn't dubya keep the budget balanced and keep the surplus when he had a gop house, senate and presidency?

More proof that the dems are the most fiscal conservative of the two parties. The gop is only conservative when a dem is in the white house. When they are in charge - it's a disaster.

You are each wasting your breath (comments) on the other. No one is going to change their position. Clinton is revered by Democrats who will give no credit to the Republican Congress. Reagan is equally revered by Republicans who will give no credit to his Democrat Congress.

So, the credit and blame ALWAYS goes to the person in charge. So how does Mr. Obama fare? You can't have it both ways...

If it's irrational and wrong to give the president so much of the credit or blame for the economy, why must we keep on doing it just because it's always been done? Let's stop doing it.
