El Camino Pedestrian Accidents

Two people have died crossing El Camino Real in the past year or so. Yesterday, there was another accident involving a pedestrian.

Why no press coverage?

Despite CalTrans improvements in response to the two people who were killed, El Camino is still extremely hazardous. Rather than add some paint and signs, it's time for CalTrans to get serious. It's time for stop lights or flashing strobes.

It's time to put the pressure on CalTrans and the Atherton and Menlo Park politicians to do something!

Yes, another pedstrian accident on El Camino and I too am amazed with the complacent attitude. Everyone who drives that road daily should be obliged to try to cross it on foot at 7:45am! Then try to cross while pushing a stroller or aiding an elderly person. There are 7 lanes of fast traffic to watch and many drivers, fed up with the stop and go at every light through Menlo Park, are eager to get to cruising speed. Simple crosswalk paint is not enough to alert drivers to pedestrians.

On Tuesday morning, I drove by the accident on El Camino in Atherton.

It was truly horrifying to see all of the Northbound cars stopped and someone laying motionless in the middle of the crosswalk.
