Commission scrutinizes Menlo Park downtown plan

Is there actually less traffic in Menlo Park now than a decade ago? When the city released the draft environmental impact report (EIR) for a vision of the downtown and El Camino Real corridors, it was a milestone for a plan that's been years in the making. Now that the scrutiny has begun, it didn't take long to identify a glitch.

The Menlo Park population grew 4% - 7% from 1995 - 2009. It grew 10% - 14% from 1995 - present.

The article misleading indicates that the Planning Commission will continue its review of the EIR. The PC is rather scheduling four meetings (or more) for review of the Specific Plan itself, which may include use of the draft EIR findings. The PC also made numerous comments about the traffic modeling approach used in the draft EIR on the Monday before the Transportation Commission's meeting.

Hey Menlo Shopper, everyone in the city is talking about the traffic modeling generally. The article said the planning commission happened earlier than the transportation commission meeting. Why the angst?
