menlo park lectures and conversations @ m-a pac

Original post made by Carin Pacifico, Menlo-Atherton High School, on May 15, 2011

I am starting a lecture series at the M-A PAC. I have a couple of models in mind, like *City Arts and Lectures* in San Francisco and the *Lectures and Conversations at the 92nd St Y* in NYC. We have so many talents in this area and a beautiful venue to meet and discuss current events and local affairs. Please join us on Wed. May 25th from 7-9 pm for our first event, a film/discussion of the Polish Solidarity movement and its experience creating a democracy and a strong economy. Thirty years later it looks like a success but it was trial-and-error and hard work. The film is told with original footage from the point of view of the journalists from the NY Times, La Monde and others who were covering events as they happened. We will follow the film with a discussion between the filmmaker, Jolanta Kessler, who is coming from the United Nations in Switzerland and Dr. Dina Ibrahim, an Egyptian-American and Asst. Professor at San Francisco State Univ. who will be going to Epypt in the fall to monitor the elections and the media, in order to support the emerging democracy. Poland has useful advice for Egypt and we hope to explore how America can help as well. Afterward we will get together at Bona, the Polish restaurant in downtown Menlo Park to celebrate our new forum. Ideas for speakers for next year would be very welcome.

Great idea - how about Neil DeGrasse Tyson?

He'll be speaking in Cupertino at the Celebrity Forum Speaker Series (Web Link might it be possible to have him speak twice during the same trip?
