Press Statement by Michael G. Stogner on San Mateo Supervisor Election

PRESS STATEMENT BY MICHAEL G. STOGNER ON 2011 SAN MATEO SUPERVISOR ELECTION

Tonight's election represents a victory for San Mateo County.

It represents a victory because for the first time I know of, unions have failed to buy an election in San Mateo County.

I congratulate Dave Pine on his victory.

I am proud that I received 7.5% of the vote (or 5,886 votes) after spending less than $500 of my own money. That works out to 11.77 votes per dollar spent. Mr. Pine received somewhat less ($550,000/21,442 = 0.039 votes per dollar spent). Notwithstanding this issue, I believe that Mr. Pine represents a good choice for San Mateo County and I look forward to working with him.

I am also proud that I took the lead in questioning pay raises for law enforcement in San Mateo County that were falsely labeled as decreases by the current Board of Supervisors. I call on Supervisor-Elect Pine to make this a critical part of his platform. Much work needs to be done in San Mateo County, but ending law enforcement union's undue influence of our county government is the top priority.

For now, I plan to continue my work as a victim's advocate and watchdog in San Mateo County. I am encouraged by the significant increase in momentum I have achieved in the past year.

I sincerely thank all of my 5,886 supporters for their vote. I look forward to the next election.

Great job, Michael!! You were very close to Burlingame Mayor Terry Nagel! What an accomplishment! Thank you for running and please continue your advocacy!

And congratulations to Dave Pine. His work is cut out for him.

Great job, Michael! You received almost as many votes as Terry Nagel, who spent a fortune on this campaign and is the former Mayor of Burlingame. Your votes came from issues and the public standing behind your position and nothing else. No unions, no money raised, nothing else to justify those votes other than people believing in you.

Pine spent $25.65 per vote.

Stogner spent 8 cents per vote.

To Mr. Mad - yes, I did not support Meg Whitman. I think Pine is better because he has questioned the sheriff pay increase. Only Stogner grabbed that issue head on. Let's put aside the sniping and realize this: there were four candidates who spent major money on this campaign, one who had a family name behind her as well as unions. Stogner got almost as many votes as someone who spent $163,000+, Terry Nagel. What this says to me is that the issues Stogner stands for are potent. Stogner is a leader, make no mistake about it. He leads by example and by earning votes in a system that is broken the "old fashioned way."

It would be great if you can investigate prior "tainted" individuals prior to you.
What form of "punishment" do people think is deserved for those who can be proven guilty of such deeds and those who influenced them?
Some have been elevated to more important jobs as we all know.
This area is notorious for sweeping "unseemly" behavior under the carpet once the damage has been done.
