Gas prices surge past $4-a-gallon in Portola Valley

Original post made on Mar 2, 2011

With Mideast unrest fueling a surge in oil prices, premium gas surpassed the $4-a-gallon mark at Portola Valley Fuel in Portola Valley. Nationally, regular-grade gas prices average $3.39 a gallon, up 25 cents in the past week or so, reports the New York Times. Prices peaked around $4 a gallon back in the summer of 2008. ==B Photo by Keith Peters.==

Thank you, Ben Bernanke!

The Shell station in Ladera has an unblemished record of being the highest priced gas station in the area, right after Shell in Sharon Heights. They are high by 18 to 30 cents per gallon over stations on Woodside Road or San Antonio.
As a result, I have rarely patronized that station in the 42 years I have lived in Ladera. Not an inconvenience, since I very frequently pass the others that are more competitive.
I suspect it is Shell that sets the price to be what the area would bear, not the franchise holder. - Though I worked for Shell for 8 years there is little incentive for brand loyalty. Especially after they tried to charge me for not using my credit card - long since cut up.

Gunther:

Sorry you didn't get the memo.

It's apparently all Ben Bernanke's fault.
