With 72% of the vote for Measure L (Pension Reform) this past November, this Council should find every possible way to make union negotiations transparent to the taxpayers. To continue having secret meetings with the union representatives going forward is simply status quo and we will never know whether or not our elected officials are truly representing our sentiments with respect to the salaries and benefits that are being negotiated.
Menlo Park taxpayers need to lobby their elected officials, write to the CCIN, attend council meetings, write letters to the editor, blog until the cows come home and make it known that we are entitled to know how our money is going to be spent and are entitled to hear the discussions surrounding decisions with respect to union employee salaries and benefits. Can you trust that this council (3 of the 5 were elected with help from the unions and the union controlled democratic central committee), will be fiscally responsible in secret?
