I agree with Mr. Schmidt's comments. Seperating the through traffic and the freeway traffic and providing a designated lane for bikes would dramatically improve safety. A little planning and paint could have saved a life. This should be made a high priority for the county

Perhaps a wiser choice would be for cyclists to be a bit less assertive about right of way and cross to the other side of Alpine at the stop sign. There is then a controlled stop for vehicles exiting 280 North and a tunnel under the on ramp for vehicles from north bound Alpine to South bound 280.
While technically cyclists should be treated as vehicles reality, unfortunately, can make cyclists who may have the RIGHT of way DEAD wrong.
