Town Square

Kathy McKeithen's Quiet Revolution

Original post made by Hooray!, Atherton: West Atherton, on Nov 2, 2010

Tonight's election of Bill Widmer and re-election of Jim Dobbie to the Town Council has ushered in what will hopefully be stunning and badly needed reform for Atherton.

It started with the removal of Charles Marsala from Atherton politics. This was badly needed. No, Marsala didn't self-impose term limits. We all know what happened.

The county and police sent in Cary Wiest to try to take that seat. Former mayors Jim Janz and Diddie Fisher tried to get him elected, desperate to hold on to the pro corruption and pro real estate majority that Marsala and Elizabeth Lewis assured them of. Jerry Carlson could be counted on to do the wrong thing most of the time.

Now, Carlson has become totally irrelevant. I wish he wouldn't be part of the council, but with Jerry Carlson it's like he's not there anyway.

The stage is now set for Kathy McKeithen to bring long-needed reform to Atherton.

A second term as mayor would be more than appropriate. There are too many important things on the agenda like outsourcing the police department we cannot afford.

Bill Widmer, in recognition of getting the most votes, should be named vice mayor next year.

P.S. – Not everything that went on in the last two weeks was reported. Suffice it to say, a coup attempt to remove Kathy as mayor (as in physically, by the cops) failed before the election as a last ditch effort by Elizabeth Lewis to retain control. Similarly, Wilkerson was bribed to attempt to stay on the job. Fortunately, both of these schemes failed.

Now if the people of Atherton can get rid of [portion removed, personal attack] Ms. Lewis. There might be hope.

Editor:

how is calling Ms. Lewis corrupt a personal attack? She assaulted a citizen in front of witnesses then lied about it. Seems corrupt to me. How about ethically challenged? Is that better?
