I want to ask if the counselors or chaperones also on the trip had any chance to get this boy some help prior to the incident?

This is certainly a tragedy for the boy's friends and family. I don't mean to be cold, but people can do stupid things that have tragic consequences.

It can be difficult to find meaning in these acts.
