Town Square

Stop the bashing of people directly.

Original post made by Colleen Anderson, Atherton: West Atherton, on Oct 16, 2010

You can talk about the issues, but please stop bashing people directly. May I remind everyone our City Council works out of love and for free. For those people that choose to make it targeted directly at them shame on you. Keep it to the facts. Personal attacks are mean spirited, and quite frankly it makes the people posting it look bad. I may not always agree with everyone about everything, but I try my best to attack the issues not the person. City Council members have feelings. What a concept. I can't even believe what is going on.

I just got out of the City Council meeting. Here are some facts as I
know them everyone should read.

Jerry Gruber went to Kathy McKeithen & Jim Dobbie and asked if our
asst city manager who currently makes $169,276 per year be raised to
$203,437 per year, and her executive asst currently making $73,000 per
year be raised to $106,000 per year.
Please also keep in mind our city is spending $1,000,000 (one Million)
dollars more per year than we are bringing in. Kathy & Jim were not in
favor of this idea, but were presenting it to Council.

If there are any facts I have left out please add them.

Let me get this straight

Buckheit offers to do the job for $1 per year

Johns offers to do the job for $1 per month

Gruber offers up Wilkerson to do the job for $203k per year.

Now I've seen everything.

No wonder Gruber is on his way out.

Colleen Anderson misses the point.

There are times when people, and the way they behave are the issue.

We have five members on our City Council who have behaved improperly. This is why Atherton can't keep a City manager.

On other posts, there have been calls for someone who will stand up to the Council.

The last guy that did that got run out of town. He successfully sued the Town. He was awarded a resolution of commendation.

When expressed an interest in becomming the new City Manager Kathy McKeithen dismissed as one with "baggage" by Kathy McKeithen.

Get real Atherton. You say you want someone who will stand up to the Council but you really don't. If you did you'd beg the former finance director to come back. He's the only one who has had the guts to call each and every one who has misbehaved in the recent past on their behavior.

Look at it this way you have the chance to vote. If you are happy with what is going on in town right now then keep the two current City Council members, and add one new voice. If your not happy with what is going on in town vote in two new Council members (new voices), and keep one current City Council member. It is that simple.

Does bashing of people include mentioning their battles with cancer, Colleen, and how that may make them unfit for public office?

You have no credibility after stooping to that level.

[Portion removed; off-topic personal attack.]

Colleen's suggestion that a council member battling cancer is unfit to serve on the Council is cruel. It is also an invasion of one's privacy.

Colleen desparately wants Carey Weist, a pro real estate, pro development guy to take Dobbie's seat.

Colleen's crying foul in response to Johns' legitimate questions over Councilwoman McKeithen's conduct is the height of hypocracy.

Shame on you Colleen

Consider yourself bashed.

Who care about Dobbie's health, because that doesn't change the back door behavior we've seen for two years. I don't know exactly what you are talking about but Colleen is on Bill Widmer's endorsement list. Bill Widmer is aligned with Jim Dobbie and everyone knows it. This whole town looks corrupt to me. We need something new.

Ok now that you brought it up not me I am going to address how I feel about cancer. Please remember you brought up cancer not me. Since early childhood my parents were in the holistic cancer field. We even owned a cancer clinic in Mexico. I can’t count the number of people I watched die from this horrific disease. They felt doctors were bad, and doctors felt they were bad. Today it is more of an east meets west attitude.
I spent my childhood years watching people die from cancer. My mother, and grandmother died from cancer. If that wasn’t bad enough when I was in my twenties my roommate had cancer. I lived it everyday. Crying myself to sleep asking God why. Rushing her to the ER. One time when I raced her to the ER the doctors told me I needed to learn how to do certain things just in case I couldn’t make it there in time. She went into remission three times, before she died. I remember one of the times when the doctor told me she was in remission. I said so she is cured he said no she is in remission……. Feel free to ask any cancer doctor what that means. My heart truly goes out to any family facing cancer, or that have faced cancer. I still am asking God why. I have spent 20 years of my life facing the roller coaster ride of cancer. I have asked Pat Dobbie directly about what is going on with Jim’s cancer (in remission), and asked her to post it to the blogs. You spend twenty years of your life crying, and asking God why then please come talk to me.
I have looked into everyone running for City Council about their health, and how they feel about the issues. When I buy a car I check under the hood, and make sure for the long hall it will be the perfect car for me.
This is a four-year term. Our country & town are going to be facing some of the worst financial times we have ever faced. Where will our town be in four years? If you had told me four years ago what is going on today I probably wouldn’t have believed you. Four years is a long time. Think back on what you thought then, and what you think now.
We need the strongest horses, smarted jockeys for the longest and hardest race we will ever run.
You need to decide in your heart of hearts who that will be. If you choose to bash me, then that is your choice I can’t stop you. Please anyone reading this understand my blog talked about stopping the bashing not cancer. If God can’t tell me why hopefully someday there will be a cure. Please pray for a cure, and if you can see it in your hearts stop the bashing of people that are working for free trying to help.

Colleen, do yourself a favor and take that post down. Disclosing that your family operated a cancer clinic in Mexico only hurts your credibility.

"armchair editor" did not read the topic heading.
It gives me, a total stranger to her, gives her more credibility.
As for people here on the councils, NOBODY works for the interest of the people.
They do it for a reason. To ultimately destroy the towns, it would seem.

What my parents did, and believed when I was a child doesn't mean I believe in it. What it does explain is how much cancer I have seen & been around in my life.
