Phone scam targeting Seniors asking for help $$$

Original post made by bambi, Atherton: West Atherton, on Oct 12, 2010

Has anyone or anyone's parents gotten a call asking for help? Someone seems to be targeting seniors in the area saying they need help. Their phone has been disconnected (really, what are you talking on?) and they have been evicted and need help.

This happened today to my parents in Atherton. Is this happening to to others? Fortunately we were able to get involved and disconnect the caller but I am concerned this may be happening to others.

I wanted to find out.

Yes- we got one of those "Hi grandma-this is your long lost grandchild calling in need of help" calls about a month ago.
Good you put this post up-I was wondering how to warn people.

There's a brief in this week's Almanac about an 83-year-old Menlo Park woman who got a call from a "grandson" claiming he needed $5,000 for bail. Must be several variations on the theme.
