Bill,

Lying in bed last night, fighting my Cpap machine, I had a flash-back to 50-some years ago at Menlo that I wanted to share. (Do you have brilliant recollections when in the waking-sleeping half light?)

It was the end of a school year. We had celebrated uproariously in faculty village. The only problem was that you and I and god dnows who else had to be standing tall the next AM I think to monitor some final exam in the Douglass Hall study hall.

We were both hung over and had skipped breakfast. While proctoring, you caught glimpse of something that would settle your stomach. Bill Kenner (how do I remember these names?) had in his shirt pocket a small packet of Sunrise raisins. You moved in and grabbed the box saying something like, "Bill, these are just what I need."

I had my laugh of the day when you opened the packet and discovered a full pack of Lucky Strikes. I believe you patted him on the head, returned the box, and said, "Thanks, anyway."

Any recall?

It was fun touching base after so many years.
