Atherton City manager Jerry Gruber has given his resignation

Original post made by Colleen Anderson, Atherton: West Atherton, on Sep 23, 2010

I guess the rumors were true Jerry was looking for another job. He has accepted a position with the Cambria Community Services District where he has owned a home since 2005.

This is unfortunate. I believe that Gruber had the potential to be an excellent Town Manager but the Council failed to recognize that California law provides for a "strong City/Town Manager" with the elected officials providing policy direction. Therefore, Gruber was never really given the opportunity to lead and his tenure here was also marked by a lot of dissension amongst the Council. Hopefully with a new Council in November the issue of the proper role of the Town Manager will be sorted out beforehand and we will be able to recruit someone with talent and leadership and then all of us can support him/her to actually MANAGE the town.

You mean the YouTube video shows the town council interfering with Gruber doing a good job?

Buckheit and Johns deserve the credit for toppling [portion removed; disrespectful language violates terms of use].

Now, is there anything else I can help you with?

I agree with Huh, on this one.

The Jerry Gruber YouTube video.

Mr Gruber had 4 opportunities to demonstrate his leadership as a Town/City Manager when Mr. Buckheit and myself asked him in public to identify the Police Officer who committed a Felony against Mr. Buckheit.

The last seconds of the above video, are the same response we got from those meetings.
