Guest opinion: Not much good to say about Arizona law

Don't spread the lie of racism to discount this Arizona law which is based on existing Federal legislation. This is not an "anti-brown person" law. If Hispanics are the major offenders in the area due to GEOGRAPHY, then of course arrest numbers will show that.

--Most Central American workers come to this country to work, to make enough money to send back to their families so that their lives can be improved.

There in lies the problem. They are illegal, don't pay taxes, send the money out of the country, and then depend on our resources for free. It has nothing to do with race, it has to do with freeloading.

--Our latest census may prove what many Arizonians don't want to admit; we're in the minority group now.

It sounds like YOU are the racist, Trish, turning this into an "us and them" issue. If you actually lived in Arizona you would know that Hispanic culture is rich in the state and celebrated, rather than speaking about what "we Arizonans" don't want to admit. The only ones complaining about this law are the illegals themselves. And yes, they ARE illegal, they broke the law to get here no matter WHERE they came from. don't reward bad behavior.

We aren't imposing laws on countries to the South. We are imposing laws on AMERICAN soil. NAFTA sent plenty of jobs down to Mexico and South America. How about THEY end their corruption and drug smuggling and human rights failures? Why isn't any of the responsibility on the Mexican government?

--Who buys the drugs and for what purpose? Look at the gangs of druggies in our schools, in the malls, "around the corner," and remember that most of the drug users are local pale-skinned buyers looking for any kind of high without having to work for an education, or find a job they "like."

Don't lecture on drugs and how "Whitey" is down in Arizona until you've spent some time on the border with the rancher's and farmers (both white and hispanic) who have lived in the area for generations to now be overwhelmed by this problem. Many of the locals did provide provisions for wary travlers who were crossing the desert and are now being threatened by the drug runners and Coyotes that are now smuggling both drugs and people.
