Where are the best places to see local lights?

Jim Schott of Menlo Park e-mails us with tips about places to go to see Christmas lights on houses.

"There seem to be fewer Christmas lights on houses this year but a few stand out and might be worth a visit," he says. "There may be many others that readers could suggest."

Here are Jim Schott's suggestions:

■ Charlie Brown & Snoopy house (Hesketh near Valparaiso).
■ Tall star house (Santa Cruz near Hermosa).
■ Christmas Tree Lane (Fulton St., Palo Alto) [http://wwwchristmastreelane.org christmasttreelance.org].
■ Blinking tree (Cotton St. between Santa Cruz & Valparaiso).

Linfield Oaks has a few streets that really get into it... nothing spectacular on any one house, but nice when the whole street participates... Linfield Drive nearer the tracks and Sherwood Way on the other side of Laurel.

Estate Drive in Los Altos is pretty special... although I haven't been there this year.

Every home on that street - it's a cul de sac with about a dozen homes - is dressed in white lites. Cars drive down the street with their lights turned off. Pretty cool.

Try Eucalyptus Ave. in San Carlos. It's 1 block off Brittan just northwest (Bay direction) from Alameda, accessible via Orange Ave. or Tamarack Ave. It's the most brightly lighted two blocks I've ever seen, including PA's Candy Cane Lane.

There's a wonderful tall tree with lights up high at the corner of Oak Avenue and Oak Knoll in Menlo Park. Lots of pretty homes in West Menlo and Ladera both.

The Bethelehem A.D. exhibit in Redwood City is a living re-creation of the village of Bethlehem on the night of the first Christmas, including a cast of 200 actors, 85 animals, elaborate sets and scenes. Open to the public - sponsored at 1305 Middlefield Rd., Redwood City. 6:00-9:30PM, Dec. 21-23, 2009.

I've heard that the Christmas Creche exibit in Palo Alto is worth a visit, 450+ chreches exhibited, LDS church at 3865 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto, link: Web Link

I second Eucalyptus Ave. in San Carlos (Eucalyptus runs parallel to Brittan Ave on the north side. Btw Alameda and El Camino) It is amazing and slightly insane.

Cathy Place, Menlo Park
Between Santa Cruz Ave and Middle Ave.
turn onto San Mateo Dr
turn onto Wallea Dr.
Cathy Place is a short dead end street
This was a surprise to discover
I watched it for at least 20 minutes before it repeated
