Time for Menlo Park to drop the High Speed Rail lawsuit

We have voted yes for it, the federal government will be making funds available for it in the stimulus package, and now even those who sought to stop the High Speed Rail are closing their websites. (see text or use the url below before Feb 28 to see DERAILHSR.COM before it goes away). Now would be a good time for our city council to take us out of the lawsuit.

With the passage of Prop 1A, all new posts to the site were suspended in November 2008. Now it is time to close down.

Thanks to all the visitors. Come Feb 28th, the site will no longer exist.

The lawsuit should be dropped. But there should be a quid pro quo. The HSR Authority should agree to not to run the trains at a speed exceeding 79 mile per hour from San Jose Diridon to its terminus in San Francisco. That way we avoid costly grade separations.

Also, we should try to find a way to add just one rail instead of 2 and allow HSR to temporaily use a CalTrains rail when an HSR is coming from the opposite direction. This requires coordination with CalTrains. The Circumvesuviana from Naples to Sorrento does this and it has worked well.

Good point, Roxie. 58% of Menlo Park voters voted in favor of HSR. Two precincts along the tracks and one up in Sharon Heights voted against. So it's time to change direction. Instead of fighting the rail, we need to work with neighboring communities to come up with the best possible plan.

For those interested in dropping the lawsuit, a first step might be to read the lawsuit.
It would be a good idea for those who support the lawsuit as well.
