End of an era: De Modderman retires

De Modderman, who guided the financial ship of both the Las Lomitas and Menlo Park elementary school districts as business manager for 22 years and for five more years at Las Lomitas, retired Dec. 30.

De, congratulations on your retirement. I know you won't just be sitting around. I remember my time at the business office with mixed emotions, but my memories of you are only good. I am in New Mexico, now, and I have multiple sclerosis. I have a nice house in Las Vegas, NM. I can't stand up long enough to cook a whole meal, so I eat lunch at the senior center. That is my social life. I can't drive very far, either, not even to Santa Fe. I hope your life will have a happier outcome than mine. Mara van der Pas
