Letter: Council majority ignored public on police pay increase

After receiving 51 individual e-mails and letters from residents last week urging the Menlo Park City Council to reconsider voting for salary raises for eight sergeants in our police department, giving them an average 30 percent increase (adding $500,000 to our city's annual budget), the majority of four council members ignored these concerns and approved the deal, with member John Boyle opposed.

The Feckless Four will continue to ignore the residents. They have to be loyal to their constituency- the Unions. Andy was the original runaway councilman; but now we have four runaway councilmen shirking their responsibility to the citizens of Menlo Park.

The pay for the 8 police sergeants is out of control as well as the line offices granted last year. Rojas taking credit for this kind of leadership is woeful. The council should have never approved paying this kind of money. Then to add to the insults, Gotia admits that property crime is up nearly 50%. So what have we bought here?

However, 51 e-mails are hardly any kind of response. How many appeared at the meeting? ZERO appeared. The e-mail campaign obviously organized by DuBoc and and her cronies ( Boyle now being their only hope) is to make political hay of this. DuBoc is history --- look at the last election. Fergusson get more votes that any other previous candidate ever --- Cohen is not far behind. Obviously the public as a whole has bought into their folly, because they ar a whole magnitude better than what the Jellins crowd produced.

No the police pay raises should not have been approved. Apparently more officers doesn't yield better results. The City is way over staffed. Staff dreams up studies to keep them selves busy.

Peter Carpenter has the right ideas, why doesn't he put them into action. However, I suppose he would be supportive of large projects like Bohannon's Towers on Bayshore -- I'm afarid he is just another one of the Jellin's crowd in disguise. When we find out if Mary Gillis is supporting him, then we will know.
